AFECA

AFECA Association des Formations Européennes a la Comptabilité et a l’Audit

AFECA is an association of several European universities to promote the international education of students and the scientific collaboration in the fields of accounting. Besides the European members, universities of Switzerland, USA and South Africa are associated.

AFECA was founded in 1993 with 6 members. The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales was one of the founders, along with the Fédération des Experts Européens (FEE). Under the presidency of Prof. Lucien Jaffré (Université de Bretagne Sud, Vannes) from 1993 to 2010, AFECA has grown continuously to 14 European member universities today. Since September 2012 Prof. Dr. Valdone Darskuviene (Vytautas Magnus University Kaunas, Lithuania) has been the president of the association. Vice-Presidents of AFECA are Mr. Paul Lurkin (Institut Catholique des Hautes Études Commerciales (ICHEC) Brussels, Belgium), Prof. Dr. László Peter Lakatos (Corvinus University of Budapest, Hungary), Prof. Dr. Eurico Lima Basto (Instituto Politécnico do Porto, Portugal) and Prof. Dr. Belen Fernandez-Feijoo (Universidad de Vigo, Spain). Prof. Lucien Jaffré (Université de Bretagne Sud Vannes, France) serves as Honorary President of AFECA.

The annual highlight of the assocation’s activities is the so called AFECA IP (AFECA Intensive Program). This 10 days event is held in one of the member universities in alternation. Each year about 100 participants (students and their professors/academics) attend the AFECA IP.

During the AFECA IP students acquire expert knowledge as well as soft skills by working in multicultural and interdisciplinary teams and they also improve their language skills. Students work in small groups on case studies in the fields of accounting and financial statement analysis. With the guidance of the academics they work out the solutions by themselves, prepare presentations and present the solutions to the other participants. The conference languages are English and French.

Besides working on case studies the program contains several workshops on current topics, where students have the possibility to listen to presentations by academics and participate in group discussions.

The program also includes common leisure activities to intensify the intercultural exchange between all participants.

The activities of AFECA are supported by the European Union and subsidized by Erasmus.
